French Club meeting scheduled for Jan. 12

On Jan. 12,  the French Club will have its first meeting of the second semester afterschool. The meeting will take place in French Club sponsor Andrea Yocum’s room, A223. Members will discuss possible activities for the club during second semester.

According to Mona Shen, French Club president and senior, members will decide on possible restaurants to visit, stores to tour, and other activities. One restaurant that French Club is considering is René, a French bakery in Broad Ripple that specializes in pastries. Another option for French Club is a brand new restaurant named Paix, or “peace” in English.

According to Shen, French Club makes a trip to René each school year. “What we normally do is go and eat at René, then bring extra money along for the (Broad Ripple) mall,” Shen said. “I want to go to René because I love French deserts. They carry French fruit tarts which are a unique French pastry, but my favorite are their chocolate crepes.”

On the other hand, Yocum is intrigued by the prospect of going to Paix. “I’ve heard great things about it, yet it is still affordable. The main courses consist of a variety of foods from pastries to popular foods like oysters. For about $10, everyone can get something they want.”

Shen said, “A new French restaurant is always a good thing to look forward to. It’s near Keystone at the Crossing, and there’s a cheese shop right next to it that French Club can tour as well.”

Besides talking about field trips, members will be creating an outline for their locker signs. According to Shen, on Jan. 26 French Club students will be creating their locker signs afterschool. “Anyone who is interested in decorating a locker sign should come to Mrs. Yocum’s room afterschool,” Shen said.

Another priority of the meeting will be to distribute the remaining French Club T-shirts. “T-shirts are still left over for any French Club members who haven’t purchased their own yet, and cost just $10,” Yocum said. By Tyler Meinz
