Marching band prepares for new season, will start rehearsals

The marching band, which had its first meeting last Saturday, prepares to start practices for its next season. According to Michael Pote, associate director of bands, the band will begin to practice over Memorial Weekend, May 31 to June 2.  The band will also have a Marching Band Kick-off meeting with students’ parents on May 26.

Pote said the marching band directors haven’t finished planning the program for next season. “We haven’t officially announced it to the kids yet,” he said.

Nikki Verbarg, snare drum player and junior, agrees, and said, “We really don’t have much planned yet for next year.”

However, Andy Cook, also an associate director of bands, said the marching band will play in the Fourth of July parade this summer and in the Macy’s Day Parade next Thanksgiving.

He said, “We’ll be up at 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving, since all the bands in the parade will rehearse from 2 to 4 a.m. Then we’ll perform, and later that day we’ll have a Thanksgiving dinner.” By Caroline Zhang <[email protected]>
