The Science Olympiad callout meeting is scheduled for Aug. 31 after school in Room B222.
Science Olympiad sponsor Fran Rushing said, “At the first meeting we’re all going to introduce ourselves, myself and (science teacher Charles) Sinclair, and then the officers are going to introduce themselves. Also, I believe the officers are putting together a slide show to show any (students) that are new to Science Olympiad what it’s all about and all the events.”
Also, a new procedure will be used to determine the team members this year.
“Every year we struggle with how to select the final team members. We have 50 or 80 (students) that show up the first day, and then we can only take 15 on that team to State at the end of the year,” Rushing said. “So this year we’re going to try a different assessment method with a written test once a month. Then, we will rank (the students) and let everybody see their scores. Then, what we want to look for are team members that continually put forth the effort to do a good job and are versatile, the kind that can rank well on many different events.”
