NHS to host its annual carnation sale

NHS will be selling carnations to CHS students on Feb. 2, 3, 6, 7, and 8 in all three cafeterias, and NHS members will deliver them on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, during SRT.

This year NHS members will be donating 100 percent of the proceeds from the carnation sale to charity. NHS will give the majority of the profits to Dance Marathon, the CHS event that raises money for Riley Children’s Hospital, and it will offer the remaining revenue to the Carmel Education Foundation, or CEF. This organization awards grants and scholarships to CHS seniors.

NHS will be selling four different flower colors, each with symbolic meanings: pink, for secret admirer, red, for love, white, for friendship, and yellow, for thankfulness. NHS assistant sponsor Tony Willis said, “This (carnation sale) has always been a tradition at CHS. Especially with the flower delivery on Valentine’s Day, I think it will give students a good reason to participate.”

Chao Ji, NHS treasurer and senior, agrees. “Students should buy carnations,” she said. “It’s a fun thing to do for Valentine’s Day.”
