K-8 mentors build stronger relationships with students, plan for end of year

K-8 mentoring class is nearly done with a successful school year of helping young students adapt to new environments.

“Some of the schools do get all the mentors together at the end of the year,” instructor Robin Pletcher said.

She is also preparing to have a culmination for the course in class.

“We’ve talked about having one day as a celebration for the year,” she said.

Mentors such as senior Allana Clancey are also preparing for the big finish.

“I think this weekend I might go to The Hunger Games with one of my girls,” she said.

Clancey said that she still must complete her four outings for this quarter. She added that she has seen her kids transform over the school year.

“At first I had some quiet ones,” she said. “Now, they get really excited to see you.”

From start to end, Clancey said she has noticed an impact being made. “You can tell that it’s made a difference,” she said.

Even though the school year is close to a close, the connections between K-8 mentors and their kids will continue interacting.

“Our relationship with them just gets better and better,” Clancey said.
