Registration for Carmel Dads Club’s winter basketball season has ended, according to Jack Beery, Carmel Dads Club president.
Beery said there is a separate freshman basketball league along with another sophomore to senior league. In all, according to Beery, there are nearly 250 athletes signed up for the high school basketball teams and 36 different teams playing. Beery said these numbers are a record high for the Dads Club’s basketball program.
“The numbers for our high school basketball program is pretty unbelievable,” Beery said. “We’re really excited about that.”
According to Beery, the increased number of players has caused issues regarding facilities.
“Our numbers are so great that it has caused facilities to become an issue,” Beery said. “We don’t have the gym space to take any more kids.”
Sophomore Mariana Rodriguez has played for the Dads’ Club for four years and said she hopes the facilities issue will not get in the way of the Dads’ Club experience.
“Carmel Dads Club is a good program,” Rodriguez said. “I really enjoyed it. It was a good experience.”
Beery said the basketball games are held at the CHS fieldhouse, so the Dads Club relies on CHS facilities to function. CHS is adding two more gyms in response to the growing demand for sports facilities, according to Beery.
“The upgrade at the high school will help a lot,” Beery said. “We can’t wait.”
