On Dec. 8, members of the Carmel Mayor’s Youth Council (CMYC) will assist food basket and gift delivery with the Carmel Fire Department. This event will start at 9 a.m., and volunteers will meet up at the Carmel Fire Department Headquarters at 2 Civi

c Square to deliver to families in need of the Carmel and Clay Township areas, according to president and junior George Gemelas.

“Basically it’s like a Care-to-Share type event,” Gemelas said. “People donate items or money to the fire department. Then the Boy Scouts order the items. We, as volunteers, distribute the gifts.”

According to secretary and junior Hyesoo Chae, members of the CMYC want to be more involved with the city government. In a previous CMYC meeting, members discussed the possibility of having one or more city council members attend CMYC meeting and members of CMYC attending city council meetings.

According to CMYC member Abinand Rejimon, he decided to attend town hall meetings and other government meetings to get a sense about how Mayor James Brainard runs Carmel.

“We talked with the mayor and decided that we, as a group, would strive to learn more about local politics,” Rejimon said.
