The aquatics center will be hosting a ten and under swim meet on Dec. 7. Repairs are still being done on its faulty electronics system.

According to Elizabeth Shafer, swim coach and chemistry teacher, the meet will involve the Carmel Swim Club, but will be held at the aquatics center.

“Our aquatics staff will prep for the meet by getting everything ready, on deck, and making sure the timing systems are in order the week prior,” Shafer said.

Warm ups for the meet will start at 10 a.m., with the meet itself beginning an hour later. Lap swimmers who wish to swim that day will have to account for the time constraints.

These constraints don’t bother some, however, such as lap swimmer Phil Nigh. “I usually come around to the aquatics center in the early morning, so it won’t be affecting me,” Nigh said.

In addition, repairs are still being done on the aquatics center, according to aquatics center director Kinsey Wallace. Among the repairs, the scoreboard has recently been made wireless. “We are discovering more things as we test our equipment, but I’d rather have it that way so we can get it all fixed upfront,” Wallace said.

While the malfunctions in the aquatics center were unfortunate, Shafer said she believes that it is best to deal with them as they come. “Sometimes, there are unavoidable instances where the timing system will malfunction; it’ll happen anytime you have electronics,” Shafer said.
