Health center updates Healthy Hounds board, gains new assistants

The start of a new year comes with a few changes in the health center, one of which being updating the recently implemented Healthy Hounds board, according to nurse coordinator Kandyce Hardie.

According to Hardie, the “Healthy Hounds” board is a bulletin board on which the nurses post different information pertinent to the current month.

Hardie said, “So for instance, since it’s January, it’s about food and nutrition and dietary habits just because it’s the time of year when a lot of people decide to make changes. So it just talks about making sure people eat right and eat breakfast and get proper nutrition.”

In addition to updating the new Healthy Hounds board, the health center has also gained new nurse’s assistants. Morgan Cavanaugh, nurse’s assistant and junior, is one of these new nurse’s assistants for the second semester.

Cavanaugh said, “It’s pretty nice to have this period, but it’s a little boring, because we normally only get to do jobs once a period. So normally, we just do our homework.”

According to Cavanaugh, running passes to other students and doing homework are her most frequent activities, as a nurse’s assistant, in the health center.

Although getting new nurse’s assistants means having to train them, Hardie said there’s not a lot to do in the beginning.

Hardie said, “Typically, in the beginning, we just train them for things like where things are in the health center, but they mostly do on-the-job training. If we need to do something, they’ll just come with us. So if we’re on an emergency run, they’ll just come with us and learn things on-the-go.”
