As the ComedySportz team trains for its upcoming season, which will start in 2015, its members are sharpening their techniques through downtown sessions with ComedySportz professionals. According to club sponsor Jim Peterson, the team travels down during weekends.
“There are Saturday group training sessions down at the national ComedySportz Theatre which is (in) downtown Indianapolis,” he said.
Kate Urbanowski, ComedySportz member and senior, said that the professionals are able to teach more specific strategies than the team learns in regular practices.
“They work a lot on technicalities of games versus us working on team bonding and practice,” she said. “The professionals teach us games, strategies, how to work as a team on stage, etcetera.”
According to Urbanowski, the new members of the team have especially benefitted from the sessions.
“It’s very cool to see the ‘noobs’ on the team be exposed to the professional ComedySportz players and (to watch) them learn.”
According to Peterson, the team will play exhibition matches in January and begin home matches in February.
Urbanowski said, “I’m very excited for the season, but also nostalgic that it’s my last season of ComedySportz. I’m going to make it a great one.”
