During the final weeks of Kids’ Corner, members will continue to teach and help students at both the Kids’ Corner Preschool and placements. According to Kids’ Corner director Kimberly Lenzo, the last day for the preschool is May 15, so Kids’ Corner will no longer be in session during final examinations.
With the final weeks of the preschool approaching, Lenzo said the theme for the week of May 4 to 8 is Summer Fun, and the theme for the week of May 11 to 15 is Camping.
For the week with the theme of Camping, Lenzo said via email, “There will be a hike, a tent and pretend cabin in the room, ‘fishing’ (in the water table), s’mores and other camping (activities).”
Students at their placements at elementary schools or at Edu-Care also have some upcoming events.
According to Courtney Yount, student teacher for Kids’ Corner and senior, she has been helping prepare kindergartners for an upcoming choir concert at her placement at Carmel Elementary School.
Yount said the concert will be on May 21, and one of the songs will be a different take on the ABC song. Yount, who has worked with the kindergartners for three weeks so far, said she has helped the kindergartners stay in tune and be familiar with the songs.
Overall, Lenzo said, “It has been a great year. The fall and spring classes have been wonderful. The high school student teachers have worked very hard and demonstrated exceptional teaching skills. The group of preschoolers that have been in Kids’ Corner (has) been so fun. It has been a pleasure and privilege to watch them (grow). I look forward to seeing some of them next year in kindergarten.”
Yount shares similar views regarding the kids she helps for Kids’ Corner.
“The kids are great,” she said. “They’re really well behaved, and you get attached to them really quickly. (Kids’ Corner is) a really cool experience.”
