Ambassadors members rehearse after-school for the choral showcase. Kouns said tickets are $5, and can be bought either at the door or in advance in the performing arts department office.

The CHS performing arts department is gearing up for the upcoming spring choir concert, on May 17 at 7 p.m. in the Dale E. Graham Auditorium.

According to director of choirs Kathrine Kouns, the concert will showcase all ten of the choir ensembles at this school. The performance will feature many pieces the various choirs have been working on since the start of the semester, particularly showcasing all of the New Edition’s award-winning competition repertoire. She said there are multiple challenges in preparing for this upcoming performance, such as difficult choreography, memorization of music, microphone technique, and staging placement.

“We were very busy this past third quarter with auditions for 2018-19 choir placements, as well as preparing for show choir competitions,” Kouns said. “It’s been a challenge to get all of the music for this concert learned in the midst of all of these other important events.”

According to Shawn Horrocks, Ambassadors member and junior, students in choir typically face obstacles while making sure all of the small nuances are understood and ready to go for performances. Specifically for the upcoming concert, he said learning the repertoire and choreography of the music was challenging.

Horrocks said, “Overall, this year was a very successful year for the choir program, and I’m really happy looking back at all the learning and performing we did. We have definitely grown as a group through hard work and determination to succeed. I’m hoping that this last concert will be our best one yet and a great end to a wonderful school year.”
