Kids Against Hunger continues to give aid

Kids Against Hunger is a club at CHS that provides food and support to those in need of food

Every third Saturday of the month, the American Red Cross in Indiana hosts a packaging event in which volunteers package food that is to be sent out to different places around the country, and recently, to places hit by natural disasters. The club takes part in this activity as well as many other activities around the school that help raise awareness for children and families who do not receive proper nutrition.

“The point of the club is just to help people who aren’t well fed, it’s a great thing to do and it is also good for community service hours in other clubs or classes,” Emily Lentz, Kids Against Hunger president and senior, said via email.

The club usually does events around the year such as penny wars and sucker sales that help get money for the organization, but this year they have not been doing as many as planned.

“(The students) really don’t have that much time, I’m sure that they would want to take part in that, we just have to find some time to make it happen,” Maggie Cassidy, sponsor of Kids Against Hunger and theater arts teacher, said via email.

Kids Against Hunger plans on having more small events that the school can be involved in either later in this semester or next year. While their efforts at the packaging events help the cause, Lentz feels that the school should be more involved and be more conscious about the club.

“The best way to have people help us, is to have people know us,” Lentz said. By Hannah Khan <[email protected]>
