Freshman Center to host Frosh Rock April 15

Frosh Rock, formerly known as Eighth Grade Welcome Night, is scheduled for April 15 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Incoming freshmen will get a summary of the clubs at this school while the parents will receive information on pre-college requirements for state schools.

“It is an opportunity to bring incoming freshmen into the building to make them feel more comfortable,” Freshman Center counselor Mary Lou Curless said.

“(Frosh Rock) made high school so much better,” Frankie Salzman, a freshman who attended Frosh Rock last year, said. “It helps make a really big school become really small, because you get so involved in what you are a part of that you make lots of friends.”

Craig Turnquist, a nationally known speaker and a former CHS student, is scheduled to attend, Curless said.

“(He will be speaking about) positive choices, with some audience participation,” Curless said. “It will be a good, fun evening.”

After Turnquist speaks, Curless said the eighth graders will be released into the Freshman Cafeteria where the club booths and student representatives of the clubs will be located.

“(Future freshmen) should definitely find something to be a part of, or many somethings,” Salzman said. “It’s really true when (teachers and upperclassmen) say ‘get involved.’”

In relation to the Academic Transition Night held earlier this semester, Frosh Rock is not much different, Curless said.

“Both (events) are very well attended,” Curless said. By Adele Zhou <[email protected]>
