The Academic Decathlon team plans to meet next on Sept. 20 in A317 according to Kevin Song, vice president and senior, via e-mail. The team will be narrowing down to specifics for the Academic Decathlon competition.

“Our focus is to prepare better than we did last year, especially in the speech event,” Song said.

Club sponsor Wendy Gerardot said that the team will continue to be recruiting for students that meet the requirements for the team’s Varsity and Scholastic levels. The team is looking for students with GPAs in the 2.7 to 3.0 to fill these spots, and the team will be decided upon sometime near the end of September, based on a test written by the leaders.

Gerardot also said that subsequent meetings will probably have their own theme or area of focus. There will also be packets and assignments for students to help prepare.

“My expectation is that, based on the strong showing at today’s call-out meeting, we will have a much stronger Varsity team this year,” Song said. By Andy Yang <[email protected]>
