Chess Club expects shirt order arrival, prepares for biggest competition of year

The Chess Club has submitted the order for its official club T-shirt, according to Scott Kluttz, president of the club and senior. Students who have ordered shirts can expect the merchandise to arrive in the next few weeks. The club has order a few extra shirts, so those who missed the order deadline but still want a shirt may be able to purchase one after the order comes in.  Shirts cost $12 each and are available in black or white. The front of each shirt has a design of two crossed Cs, and the back has an image designed by senior Olivia Lee.  Students can order shirts from seniors Rostam Razban and Andrew Aisen.

The club is also preparing for its biggest tournament of the year, scheduled for sometime in

mid-March.  “It’s a team tournament,” Kluttz said. “We’ve got four players on each team. The four players from Carmel play against four players from another school. Whichever team wins the majority (of the four games) moves on to the next round.”

Kluttz said he hopes the CHS team does better at this tournament than it did last year. “We were a little bit disappointed last year,” he said. “We got in the top 10, but this year we want a top 3 finish.”

The Chess Club continues to meet every Monday in Room F103, according to Margaret Winans, Chess Club sponsor and business teacher. Any student who wants to learn new chess tactics or play for fun may come to the meetings. By Aruni Ranaweera
