French students take National French Exam on March 17

Selected students from French I and II classes will take the National French Exam, or Le Grand Concours, on March 17 during both sessions of SRT in the World Language Listening Lab, Room A220.

All French III, IV and V students have already taken their mandatory tests in class. For French I and II, two students were chosen from each class to represent based on grades and class participation according to French teacher Susie Deneen. “We just like to give (the test) to them so they have exposure to that kind of test whereas they’ll probably have to do that when they go to college and test out,” Deneen said. “We like to see how well we’re doing as teachers, too, compared to the other schools.”

Brandon Xu, one of the selected French II students and freshman, said he thinks he will do quite well on the test. “I am hoping to score high enough to win some sort of a cash prize,” he said via email. “Most likely, I will score in the top half at least but anything is possible.”

Xu also said he plans to review his class notes and resources but not too much. “I won’t worry myself too much by overstudying,” he said

Generally, this school does exceptionally well, falling around the top 30 or 40 percent nationally each year. By Kim Qian
