Marching band prepares for new season, will start rehearsals

The marching begins plans for its next season and will have its first meeting on April 23. According to Andy Cook, associate director of bands, this meeting is for introducing new members to marching band.

Cook said, “It’s mainly just telling (incoming eighth graders) about marching band and what we do.” He said regular rehearsals probably won’t start until around Memorial weekend, and that band hasn’t decided its program for next season.

According to Nikki Verbarg, snare drum player and junior, the marching band’s plans are still in the preliminary stages. “We really don’t have anything planned yet for next year,” she said.

However, Cook said the marching band will play in the Fourth of July parade this summer and in the Macy’s Day Parade next Thanksgiving.

He said, “We’ll be up at 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving, since all the bands in the parade will rehearse from 2 to 4 a.m. Then we’ll perform, and later that day we’ll have a Thanksgiving dinner.” By Caroline Zhang <[email protected]>
