The Chess Club will continue to meet until the end of the school year, according to Margaret Winans, sponsor of the club and business teacher. The club meets in Room F103 every Monday right after school. Due to the ending of the chess competition season, meetings will consist of relaxed chess matches and logic-building activities. Club officers are considering having a celebratory end-of-the year pizza party, but are unsure of exact details.
Scott Kluttz, president of the club and senior, said he is proud of what the club has achieved in the past year.
“This year has been a success,” Kluttz said. “We went in expecting a lot, and that’s just what we got.”
Kluttz and all other current club officers will graduate this spring, leaving open officer positions for next year. The club is looking for new members to fill these open positions. Students interested can join the Chess Club in the fall of 2011 for more information.
Though Kluttz will not be at CHS next year, he said he expects the club to carry on with success in the future.
“We started the Chess Club two years ago, and now we’re number one in the state,” he said. “It’s only going to get better from here.” By Aruni Ranaweera
