According to Jerry Brickley, Creative Writing Club sponsor and English teacher, the club members share and critique each other’s pieces of writing.
The club calls sharing and critiquing writing “workshopping”. Other activities the club does include writing exercises and discusses writing techniques. According to Alexis Beck, president and senior, the club has discussions about writing, for example how to create fictional worlds.
“Everybody’s kind of throwing in their ideas and talking about how to approach that,” Brickley said.
In addition, Creative Writing Club is interested in putting together a literary magazine that will be just the works of the people in the club. Members want the magazine to come out sometime in the fall. The club is open to anyone and students can join anytime during the year.
“The people that come are really accepting and we’re all very respectful of each other and no one is going to judge you. It’s a place to come relax and do what you like to do,” Beck said.
