FCCLA to attend District Meeting on Oct. 25

The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) will attend its district meeting on Thursday, Oct. 25 at Tuttle Orchards in Greenfield, according to club sponsor Nancy Spencer. They will be meeting with FCCLA chapters from other schools in the Indianapolis district.

“We’re going to have a hayride, a cornmaze, and hopefully will get to paint pumpkins,” Club vice president Aliya Malcom said. “It was a lot of fun last year, but we’re not sure what we are going to plan with the other schools.”

The bike safety course on Oct. 13 was a success, according to Spencer. 12 of the club’s members participated. “It was a great service for Riley,” Spencer said.

“Lots of young children came,” Malcom said. “They were a lot of fun.”

The FCCLA continues to focus on its ongoing goal of fundraising. The March of Dimes, which raises money for children with birth defects, and Share our Strength, which focuses on child hunger, are the two main fundraisers of the year, according to Spencer. “The fundraising is on ongoing thing for our community,” she said.

Spencer said increasing membership is still a goal for the club. The club has 47 members now and has met its 30-by-30 goal, which was to get 30 new members in 30 days. They need three more members by Oct. 31 to meet its 50-by-50 goal, according to Malcom.
