Members of Brain Game prepare for their competition on Nov. 28, according to coach and sponsor John Shearin.
Both Shearin and freshman team member Matthew Zheng said they will most likely win their first competition.
“We have a really good team. Everyone here is really smart,” Zheng said.
To prepare for the competiton, the team had a practice meet with faculty members on Nov. 12. Five members of Brain Game competed with five teachers. During practice, students were quizzed on more questions relating to math and science than other topics. According Shearin, the team typically does better on math and science questions and not as collectively well on ones about literature.
For the decision on who should compete in competitions, Shearin said he looks at each student’s abilities.
“We look at the tremendous difference in our students,” Shearin said. “Some of them who do very well and some of them don’t do as well and some of them who do well at one thing and not others.”
