HiLite staff members received Gold Circle awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA), according to a press release sent out on Sept. 20. The 30-year-old award program recognizes work from student journalists, published in print or online between June 16, 2012 and June 15, 2013. The CSPA Gold Circle award program received 12,847 entries from secondary schools, high schools and colleges and gave out 1,780 awards in total.
The Hilite staff won a certificate of merit for caption writing.
Senior David Choe won a certificate of merit for the editorial cartoon, “Activism throughout history.”
Liane Yue ’13 won first place for the informational graphic “Looks that might kill,” and junior Jiva Capulong won a certificate of merit the informational graphic “Iron Man.”
Junior Dennis Yang won second place for a portfolio of work in informational graphics.
The HiLite staff won first place for overall design in newsmagazine format.
Senior Claudia Huang and juniors Lauren Lu and Dennis Yang won first place in feature package, single page design, newsmagazine format for the story “Appearance ‘beats’ audio.”
