Global Giving is hoping to host the first ever ping pong tournament with the Ping-Pong Club, according to co-president and senior Jessica Chiang. Last year, Global Giving canceled the ping pong tournament due to the club members’ busy schedules.
Chiang said, “My friend has done a tennis fundraiser before, so I’m going to ask her how she did it, but people would just pay to play and all that money would just go to a charity.”
Last meeting, the club decided the two charities it would donate to for the year, according to sponsor Ryan Ringenberg. For the local charity, it chose Ronald McDonald House, an independent nonprofit organization that works to create, find and support programs that improve the health of children. The club chose Operation Smiles for its international charity. Operation Smiles is an organization that raises money to give surgeries to kids with cleft palate.
“I think it’s good that we stuck with Operation Smiles just because we’ve been pretty consistent with that and it is a trusted and well-respected foundation,” Chiang said.
As for the rest of the year, Chiang said she is excited to bring back “Carmel’s Best Dance Crew,” an annual event that Global Giving hosted up until last year when plans fell through. By Sriya Ravi
