According to school board president Layla Spanenberg, the school board has approved additional funds for the fitness center and a bid from Sprinturf to accomplish the synthetic turf project.
The board approved a $77,303 additional cost to Gibraltar Construction Corporation in order to fix sewage for the fitness center. The school board also awarded the $1,918,200 bid for the Carmel High School Synthetic Turf Project to Sprinturf.
Spanenberg said via email, “We took action to complete paper work associated with the project. With any project, there are unforeseen changes to an original plan which impacts expenses.”
Swimmer and senior Zac Schleich said that he thinks that the funds appropriated for the fitness center have been beneficial for his team and others.
“(The fitness center has) given us a lot more space and equipment to train and prepare,” Schleich said. “I’m not quite sure if (the new equipment) was worth it or not. I know it is nice but it also costs a lot of money.”
