Carmel beat Valparaiso 49-0 in its home opener on Aug. 26.
“We’re excited about starting out 2-0 and beating a team that was in the semi-state last year,” said Head Coach Kevin Wright.
Carmel’s next game will be home against Center Grove at 7 p.m.
Shawn Heffern, varsity defensive end and senior, said while the win is a great feeling, Carmel cannot get over excited.
“I mean there’s nothing like winning, don’t get me wrong,” Heffern said. “But we have to stay focus on the future. We can’t get a sense of entitlement that we just deserve to win every game.”
Wright said he like the way Carmel has played in its first two games.
“(Valparaiso is) physical and we were able to match their physicality, and I like the fact that we’ve shown good team speed the first two games,” Wright said. “We were able to match physicality and show great speed on both sides of the ball. In our conference you have to be fast to survive. We’re going to break down the tape and try to get better next week.”
