Despite having already started, Chess Club welcomes new students to join the club. According to sponsor Margaret Winans, Chess Club meets every Monday after school until 4 p.m. when late bus passes are provided or until. 4:30 p.m. in Room F103.
Regardless of chess experience, everyone is encouraged to attend and play both recreationally and competitively against one another.
Chess Club attendance is optional and is not recorded.
“At Chess Club, we train for the state final,” club member and sophomore Truman Henderson said. “For the past three years we’ve been the state champions and we plan to win again this year.”
Co-president and sophomore Sam Philleo promotes going to Chess Club. “School trains the mind, while chess is the battle of the minds,” he said.
