Speech team plans to compete Nov. 1 at Fishers High School, according to sponsor Jacleen Joiner. For this meet, students will meet at CHS in the morning. The team is expected to demonstrate the highest standards of professionalism as discussed in the last meeting.
“After seeing what this team is capable of doing, I expect nothing less than the best from them,” Joiner said.
Like many of the other participants, club member and freshman Mallory Roach is preparing both at home and at meetings for this upcoming meet. At this meet, Roach will be performing in improvisational duo and original oratory. To be fully prepared for this meet, Roach has practiced by looking up past prompts and time requirements for speeches at different schools.
“I enjoy going to meets because you can see the progress that you’ve made and the things that you need to fix in the future,” she said.
The club has had a lot interest this year, and the team has greatly expanded, compared to last year. Roach said people often join to improve their speaking.
Roach said, “People in speech team gain confidence, perseverance, and great speaking skills.”
