Indian Student Association (ISA) has been searching for a new identify all year with the lost of its founder and president graduating last year. While senior Aryaman Gupta was president beginning this year, club leadership has been placed into the hands of sophomore Alina Husain.
“The old leaders weren’t really doing anything with the club, they weren’t taking any initiative with it, and I think it was mainly primarily because they are seniors and so I decided I would just kind of take it over because I think if we really properly run the club there will be interest in it,” Husain said.
Husain is not alone in reconstructing the club. Vice president and junior Sitha Vallabhaneni as well as secretary and junior Ray Jiang join her. The three have known each other for a long time and have similar goals for the club.
“I feel that the new leadership is very capable of carrying this club and starting this club and making it run very smoothly. I know that Alina is very passionate about this club … Sitha and I work really well together and I think this will be fun,” said Jiang.
Vallabhenani had similar hope for the club. “When I wanted to do ISA, at first I was interested; but it didn’t seem like it was what it could be so I never joined. But now, I feel like it’s going to be a lot better than what it’s been the past couple of years.”
However the new leadership has still not found a sponsor as the former sponsor, teacher Paige Wehr is no longer going to fill that position. They have ideas and hope they will come to fruition soon so that they may have a call-out meeting.
“At the moment, we don’t have a lot of people in the club, primarily because I think most people don’t know about it. I want to give it a fresh start. We have new leadership now, new everything.”
