Success at homecoming pushes Global Giving to keep fundraising

Global Giving, a club here that is dedicated to raising money for underprivileged children around the world, recently had its first fundraising attempt by running a homecoming booth.

“We did really well. A lot of our new members are really enthusiastic and helped sell successfully. We raised over $225 from selling baked items and drinks,” co-president and senior Annie Tang said via e-mail.

Compared to last year, the group made much more, according to Tang. “Last year it was raining, so we only got about $75 total, so this year it was much more successful. Also, last year it was just two people working the entire thing, but this year we got a ton more help,” Tang said.

The club also had its first call-out meeting, and plan on having its next meeting on Oct. 12. “We had a good turn-out for our call-out meeting,” sponsor Ryan Ringenberg said. “We had about 25 new students show up.”

The club also plans participate in the Indianapolis International Festival from Nov. 19-22. “We’re going to put up a booth and promote and fundraise,” Tang said.

So far, the group has been doing very well according to Ringenberg. “We’re already ahead by where we were last year by far, and last year we didn’t have the International Fair,” Tang said.

“Our main goal is to continue to raise money and beat last year’s numbers,” Ringenberg said. By Darlene Pham <[email protected]>
