Winter sports are officially underway at this school, marking an official start to the 2018-2019 coquettes dance season. Students were able to tryout for this winter dance team during the week of fall break, ending with 15 girls on the team.
“It is going so well so far,” member and junior Maddy Massa said. “Practices are super fun and productive.”
To be on the team, however, you must hold certain skills to meet the qualifications.
“We use a rubric to judge the tryouts,” head coach Sarah Wolff said. “Turns, leaps, kicks… they have to be able to memorize the routine that they are given, it has to be clean, sharp.. they are also graded on performance quality. There are lots of categories to judge them on.”
In order to be prepared for performances, the team practices each week after school.
“We have already finished learning our first two dances of the season, we have five total,” Massa said.
Massa is beginning her third year dancing for the team.
Junior Kendall Greene is a third year member as well, dancing alongside Massa.
“I am super excited for this upcoming season and I can’t wait to show all of our hard work,” Greene said.
The first performance of the season is on Nov. 20 during halftime of the men’s basketball game. By Hannah Gretz
