Key Club to have next meeting Jan. 28

As the second semester of the school year gets under way, Key Club invites new members to come to their next meeting on Jan. 28. The club is planning to volunteer for Riley Children’s Hospital through Dance Marathon and for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti through the Salvation Army.

According to club co-sponsor Katie Gray, students must turn in a code of conduct and dues form by the end of January if they want to join Key Club. These new members only need to complete 25 total service hours instead of 50, she said, as they will only have a semester to seek out volunteering opportunities.

Gray said the Key Club plans on collecting money over the next few weeks for the victims of the recent earthquake that struck Haiti, to be distributed through a trustworthy charity organization. That organization will likely be the Salvation Army, according to Morgan Perry, club president and junior. According to Perry, Key Club will raise funds for Haiti at basketball games and other sporting events. Club members and officers will go around during SRT to collect money as well.

Gray also said all Key Club members should take part in Dance Marathon, scheduled for Feb. 20. Dancer packets are due Jan. 25. Dance Marathon is a fundraising event for Riley Children’s Hospital sponsored by House, according to Perry, and it presents a good volunteering opportunity for Key Club members.

“When they register for Dance Marathon, (club members) can put down ‘Key Club’ as the organization that they’re with,” Perry said. “The club with the most members participating will get a prize at the end, so everyone should sign up.” By Thalib Razi <[email protected]>
