Snow becoming an issue for transportation department

The Carmel-Clay School District has seen much more snow fall on its streets than it is used to during the month of February. Because of this abnormal amount of snowfall, Carmel-Clay Schools have experienced multiple delays and cancellations of class time and activities.

Ron Farrand, director of facilities and transportation, plays a key role in the decision-making process in which the superintendent decides what cancellations should be made.

“I tell the superintendent whether or not I think the buses will be able to operate safely,” Farrand said. “Then he goes ahead and makes his decision about any types of delays or cancellations from there.”

Farrand said he cannot remember a time when the superintendent decided to have school after he had recommended that it be cancelled.

Most students, including sophomore Clay Morrisson, wish for snow days any time they see snow hitting the ground.

“I always hope we get a delay or no school,” Morrisson said. “But I think they have done a pretty good job deciding whether or not it should be cancelled.” By Charlie Browning <[email protected]>
