At Key Club’s next meeting on April 29, club members will vote for class representatives and officers for the next school year.

“We have a small but strong group of contenders this year, and the important thing is that members come out and vote,” sponsor Katie Gray said.

Members will also discuss and prepare for the senior prom, scheduled for May 8. The senior prom is a dinner and dance for senior citizens held at the Prime Life Enrichment Center. Gray said Key Club received a grant of roughly $900 from the United Way of Central Indiana to organize the event.

“We’re going to see if the grant money holds out; if it doesn’t, we’ll call for donations from club members for group hours,” Gray said.

Club members can also earn group hours at the next meeting, according to Morgan Perry, club president and junior. Perry said members can bring in supplies for the senior prom like decorations, baked goods and snacks. According to Perry, at the meeting members will make decorations and centerpieces for the tables.

In addition, club members are encouraged to attend the senior prom itself, which will take place on May 8 from 5 to 9 p.m. They can serve the food, converse with the elderly and dance with one another.

“We want to bridge the gap between the generations,” Perry said. “We want (senior citizens) to know that we’re doing good in our community and we want to listen to their stories. They always have very interesting stories to tell.” By Thalib Razi <[email protected]>
