Science Olympiad election scheduled for May 5

Science Olympiad will hold their officer elections on April 28, in sponsor Fran Rushing’s Room, Room B223. The applications to become an officer were due to Rushing on Friday, April 23, and the officers will be announced at the end of the year meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 5. An end of the year celebration is also scheduled for May 5.

“They will be elected by the members of the group after giving a short speech about why they should be/want to be an officer,” Rushing said via e-mail. After the speeches, members will have the chance to vote for their favorite candidate.

Hong Yang “Jimmy” Sun, president of Science Olympiad and senior, said he was elected last year by promising to work hard and winning the majority of the votes from his fellow members.

“Officers introduce Science Olympiad, help people with events and basically put together the 15 people teams for Regionals and State,” Sun said.

Science Olympiad is a group of students that work as a team and learn about topics dealing with science. It provides hands-on experience with real life problems involving students, teachers and parents, as well as the business community. By Rachel Boyd <[email protected]>
