Chess club to meet on Sept. 20

The Chess Club will be meeting Sept. 20 after school in Room F103, according to business teacher and sponsor Margaret Winans. Everyone, with or without experience in chess, is encouraged to attend. The meeting will consist of competitive and non-competitive playing and opportunities to learn chess skills from other members. The clubs meets until 5:30 p.m. but players may leave whenever they choose.

Scott Kluttz, Chess Club president and senior, promotes new members to come even if they have missed previous meetings. “Every week’s meeting is better than the first.”

Most activity at chess club may be relaxed, but some members are sharpening their skills to get ready for the state chess tournament, scheduled for March. The tournament accepts competitors from schools all over Indiana, and the Chess Club always sends four representatives from CHS. “Everyday we are building onwards,” says Rostam Razban, member and senior.

Current members should continue to attend. According to Kluttz, “Everyday is special at chess club.” By Aruni Ranaweera <[email protected]>
