FCCLA plans annual bike safety event, scheduled for Oct. 9

Jordan Bear, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Club (FCCLA) president and junior, said she is looking forward to the Bicycle Safety Clinic hosted by Clarian North Hospital. This event is in conjunction with the hospital’s health fair and is scheduled to take place on Oct. 9 from 11 to 3 p.m.

“Bike Safety is an awesome event where we basically get to take the little kids around on obstacle courses on bikes and teach them all the different safety rules,” Bear said.

FCCLA sponsor Lila Torp said the club members will help children learn how to safely ride bicycles, set up the bike course and hand out certificates to the children showing they have received a ‘license’ to ride their bicycles.

Torp said FCCLA members will teach the children safety measures such as how to secure helmets, stop at stop signs, look both ways and signal when turning.

“I think this is a great way to provide young people in the community with bike safety training and I think it will be really fun for the club as well,” Torp said. By Erum Rizvi <[email protected]>
