The TechHOUNDS building season is finally here after about four months of preparation during the preseason.
TechHOUNDS members received rules for “Logo Motion,” the game that they will be designing for the season, on Jan. 8. The game will involve placing a triangle, square, and circle-shaped inner tubes on pegs and a mini robot climbing a 10-foot pole. According to George Giltner, the team sponsor, TechHOUNDS members are ready and excited to start building the project.
“We have a group of 65 and they’re all eager to work,” Giltner said. “We’ve only got six weeks to do the project, and I hope we’ll do a lot of learning, a lot of work, set a lot of goals.”
According to Ryan Wilmes, TechHOUNDS team leader and junior, the team members are currently working in the planning stages, as they are brainstorming ideas and have sketched out different designs.
“I think (the season)’s going to go really well,” Wilmes said. “A lot of our new members are using their preseason training and are working on the robots really well.”
With the team’s successful history of two consecutive Boilermaker Regional victories in 2009 and 2010, Giltner agreed with Wilmes.
“I’m very optimistic (about the season),” Giltner said. “If we use our six weeks and take advantage of our time and everybody plays their roles, I think they will do really well.” By David Choe
