Chess Club asks for fan support at State Chess Championship, official club shirts have arrived

The Chess Club will compete in the annual State Chess Championship on March 26. Scott Kluttz, club president and senior, said he wants CHS students to come to the tournament and support the chess team.

“Come and support us; cheers us on. We really rely on support from the CHS student body to win,” Kluttz said.

The tournament will take place in Honey Creek Middle School in Terre Haute. It will start at 8 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. Thirty schools from Indiana will be competing. Tickets are free and any student may come to the tournament to watch and support the CHS chess team.

In addition, the official Chess Club T-shirts have also arrived, according to Rostam Razban, head of shirt sales and senior. Students who have ordered shirts can pick them up from Razban. Three extra shirts are also available for students who have not ordered a shirt but want one. The shirts cost $12 each and are available in black or white. Razban said he will accept orders on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The Chess Club continues to meet every Monday, according to Margaret Winans, sponsor of the club and business teacher. The meetings take place in Room F103 and begin right after school.  By Aruni Ranaweera <[email protected]>
