Best Buddies to have Family Meet and Greet Oct. 6

Best Buddies scheduled its Family Meet and Greet for Oct. 6 at River Heritage Park. According to Best Buddies sponsor Jana Cosler, there will be food, sports balls to play with and a playground to just hang out.

Cosler said this activity is for the families of the peers and buddies to get a chance to get to know each other, talk about their expectations for their friendships and discuss what they are comfortable with.

“The reaction of the students’ faces is just priceless. Some don’t generally get together with a large group of friends and hang out outside of school,” said Michael Huskey, vice president of Best Buddies and senior.

The theme of this year’s group is “Inclusion Revolution”, according to Cosler.

“The whole goal is inclusion, that we see disabled peers as just peers, we quit labeling kids as disabled or nondisabled,” Cosler said.

Huskey said that the student officers have been planning several activities for later in the year, such as Bowling Night, a Pacers game, Friendship Walk and movie nights. Cosler said she thinks that these activities are beneficial to the peers and the buddies.
