According to Assistant Principal Doug Bird, the maintenance and custodial departments are prepared for possible hazardous weather in the winter months.
Bird said, “Indiana weather is very unpredictable, but we are prepared to handle almost anything that happens.”
Bird said that the maintenance and custodial departments have already purchased and received enough salt for several snowfalls. Also, the departments checked the plows, salt trailers, and other equipment to make sure they were functioning properly.
Additionally, according to Bird, both departments have preauthorized overtime hours, which allow their members to work at late hours into the night to prepare the parking lots and sidewalks for the next school day.
“The most important things are that you guys are safe and can get here and that we have school, so there’s definitely times where there’s a lot of sleepless nights for our maintenance and custodial staffs,” Bird said.
Students here say they are grateful for the behind-the-scenes work the departments do for the school.
Senior Scott Gardner said, “I appreciate the hard work the maintenance department does outside the school to make the streets and trails safe and walkable.”
