The Indian Student Alliance (ISA) will have a meeting on Feb. 1, during which they will discuss some ideas about fundraising for the child whom they are sponsoring, as well as Indian holidays that the members plan on celebrating.
Paige Wehr, sponsor of the ISA, said, “We’re thinking about doing a fundraiser for our kid. We’re kicking around fundraising ideas.”
Kyle Walker, co-vice president of the ISA and sophomore, said, “We’re planning on a pitch-in dinner to raise money sometime in the near future.”
The members will discuss the date of the dinner during the next meeting. They will also plan for some ways to celebrate Indian culture.
“We’re thinking about watching some Indian movies,” Walker said.
Not only will ISA members watch Indian movies, but they will also celebrate Holi.
“We are trying to do a celebration called Holi,” Wehr said. “It’s basically a celebration where people dance in the streets and throw colored pigments at each other.”
On March 27, Holi, also known as the Festival of Colors, celebrates bountiful harvests. During the festival, people dance, sing folk songs and throw colored powders at others.
“It’s a Hindi festival in April. We were thinking about going to West Park. The festival involves colored powder,” Walker said.
