The Veterans Day convocation is scheduled to commence on Nov. 11. The celebration is held during SRT, and two men, Pete O’Hara and Paul Bucha, will be recognized at the convocation for their service. Also, more veterans who were asked to attend will be in the auditorium as well, but they will not be directly recognized.
Will Ellery, the sponsor of the Veterans Day celebreation, was especially excited about one of the men who is being recognized. “Paul Bucha is a veteran from the Vietnam War,” Ellery said. “Not only does he have ties to one of our students here at CHS, but he won the Medal of Honor. Now that’s special.”
Ellery explained that he would be especially moved at one part of the ceremony. “The Arm Service Solute,” he said. “Those guys pop to attention when their service anthem is played, no matter how young or how old.”
Master of Ceremonies Olivia Patterson explained the gifts that would be given to both the veterans. “A brick engraved with the service they have done. It’s just a small token that we can give to these veterans, showing of our utmost respect,” Patterson said. All of the students in the auditorium will have the chance to show their appreciation during the ceremony.
The convocation will be happening in the auditorium for all seniors to attend, but others can ask Ellery for special permission to attend.
