Senate members are in the process of organizing the Care to Share gift drive, according to Senate sponsor Michelle Foutz.

The school will sponsor 57 individuals this holiday season, Foutz said, with an individual SRT or a group of SRTs being responsible for collecting each family’s gifts. Foutz said Senate members are awaiting a response from the United Way of Central Indiana, the charitable organization that distributes the gifts, with information on the individuals and families who will receive the donations.

Collection dates for the gifts will be in early December, Foutz said.

The Care to Share drive has become a mainstay at this school because of students’ unique ability to get to know the recipients of their donations, Foutz said.

“It’s very personal because we know the names of the individuals, ages, what they like, favorite colors, etc.,” Foutz said. “…you feel more connected to the families receiving the support than with other types of charitable programs.”

While working on Care to Share, Foutz said, Senate members have also continued organizing the Jan. 24 winter dance, now confirmed as a “Gatsby Party” themed event, and the Support Staff Recognition Day on Nov. 13.
