On Nov. 5, members of All for a Cure met to discuss their recent bake sale for the American Cancer Society. Members had set up a table outside the main cafeteria and sold Halloween-themed baked goods. The club raised $96.75. According to Joie Li, club president and junior, the club ran into some problems because there were not enough members to cover the table during certain lunch periods.
Li said, “We overcame that hurdle by adjusting our schedules accordingly. For example, if someone couldn’t cover C lunch, we would just wrap up the sale after B lunch. This helped the bake sale go smoothly and efficiently.”
Club sponsor Tungfen Lee said she was extremely proud of the members. “They used their own money to buy those baked goods to sell for the American Cancer Society. They also dedicated their lunch hour to sell their products for a good cause.”
There are more baked sales planned for the year. The next one will be held the week of Valentine’s Day. In the meantime, Li said the club is looking forward to winter holiday events coming up, such as making holiday cards for cancer patients starting in the beginning of December.
Li said, “It’s important to plan ahead for events that center around Christmas and Hanukkah. The patients diagnosed with cancer need to know there are people looking after them and supporting them. It’s a time of great cheer that every person should celebrate.”
