The Icehounds gold team will compete against Leo at the Ice Box in South Bend on March 1 at 11:30 a.m. after winning the Hoosier League Championship Feb. 15 against Cathedral/Chatard 3-0. Their game against Leo is their first of three games for the weekend. They play Riley at the Ice Box later that night at 7 p.m., and they play them again on March 2 at 12 p.m. at HSE “A.”
Regarding the Hoosier League Championship win, Logan Gentile, right wing and defenseman for the Icehounds gold team and junior, said, “Our intensity factor was good.”
Personally, Gentile said, “I thought I played well, I had a big assist on a goal to (forward and junior) Ted Lyon.”
According to Gentile, the teams’ performances in the preliminary State tournament games will determine if they get to move on to play in the 4A Indiana State High School Hockey Association (ISHSHA) State Championship March 8 in Fort Wayne.
He said, “We have a legitimate chance of winning a State championship.
Michael Bozoian, head coach of the Carmel Icehounds gold team, said via email that having the opportunity to compete for championships is always fun.
He said, “Players shouldn’t need help being motivated to play in those tournaments, with championships on the line.”
