With fall sports season almost complete, the athletic trainers will soon need new members. There isn’t a call-out meeting for students who are interested in the organization, but Dawn Robertson, Certified Athletic Trainer, is always open for new students.
“There are always opportunities for students who want to be an athletic trainer,” Brielle Peters, student athletic trainer and senior, said. “It is a huge time commitment but if you think it’s something you might want to do go talk to Dawn Robertson or Steve Schofield and they will let you know more details about becoming one.”
The fall sports season, which ends in the beginning of November, includes men’s and women’s soccer, cross-country and football. There are no prerequisites to become a student athletic trainer, but students do receive some training. “They learn how to perform basic first aid,” Robertson said.
The students meet almost daily, and help take care of the athletes on the sports team to which they have been assigned. Peters said, “When you are covering a sport, you go to the training room every day after school where you take care of the players on your team who are injured at that time.” By Jerry Xu <[email protected]>
