Speech team will have its first meet of the year on Nov. 21 at Lawrence Central, according to speech team sponsor John Love.

Love said that there are about 20 to 25 schools that attend speech meets from around Indiana.

“It usually depends on the tournament and school that’s hosting the meet. Larger schools, like Carmel and Lawrence Central, have about 25 schools at the meet, but it varies from meet to meet,” Love said.

Love said that speech team members have started preparation for the first meet of the year individually

“The kids select the piece they want to do from the 14 different categories,” Love said. “Preparation is done individually. Some members choose to do more than one piece.”

Dianya Pu, speech team member and senior, said that there are many ways members prepare for the meet.

“The best way to prepare is to do a lot of research and to keep up with the news. Reading Time Magazine, Newsweek and other publications really helps me prepare,” Pu said.
