Senate will be collecting money to benefit the victims of an earthquake in Haiti on Jan.29 during SRT. According to senior Steven Brisley, who is involved in the program, one student from each SRT should bring the money to the Senate room during SRT on Friday.
“The money will be collected by SRTs. One representative will turn them into the Senate room (E218) during SRT on Friday,” Brisley said via e-mail.
All money will be donated to St. Joseph’s church in Port-au-Prince.
“They will be able to pull funds directly from a U.S. bank account to purchase medical supplies,” Brisley said.
Senior Olivia Roy, who came up with the idea of the Haiti fundraiser, said she was inspired to start the fundraiser because she visited Haiti with her father over a summer mission trip.
“These people needed the money even before this, so it’s even more important to help now,” she said.
According to Brisley, this will not be the last fundraiser to benefit Haiti happening at CHS.
“Currently, there are multiple organizations at the school working together to plan a longer Haiti fundraiser, so stay tuned in February for more,” he said. By Kendall Harshberger <[email protected]>
