It is almost the beginning of May, which means that the temperature is beginning to rise. No longer is there a need for coats and boots to keep warm, but instead only an occasional sweatshirt is needed.
Because of the weather becoming more comfortable, more and more kids are beginning to drive to school instead of riding the bus. The bus is taken by many more during the winter because they do not have to walk up the trail while it is cold outside. But now that it has begun to warm up, walking up the trail does not seem as bad to many.
“I mostly ride the bus in the winter because of the cold,” sophomore Heather Van Asten said. “But when spring time rolls around, I kind of enjoy walking the trail with my friends.”
Ron Farrand, director of facilities and transportation, said he is not surprised this is the case.
“We normally see a decline in the number of people that ride our buses after spring break,” Farrand said. “And I don’t blame them. If the weather was warm, I’d want to drive to school too.”
Although walking the trail takes extra time, Van Asten said it does not bother her.
“I get in a better mood once the weather gets warmer, so I don’t mind getting up a couple of minutes early,” Van Asten said. By Charlie Browning <[email protected]>
